"Unite to End TB." This is the slogan that World Health Organization has announced for this years World TB Day activities. Even though, in our days, tuberculosis can be treated, people continues to die because of it. Tuberculosis is the second cause of death among adults as a result of an infectious disease.
In 1993, WHO declared tuberculosis to be ”a global emergency” after it has been determined that the number of people with tuberculosis has been increasing. Moldova is one of the countries with the highest TB burden in Europe. Tuberculosis causes immense suffering among the families where there is at least one person sick, that is why our efforts to fight and control TB continue.
On March 24, a few AFI team members have visited the institutions with which they colaborate closely in the activites for preventing and contoling TB, such as the Hospital, the Center of Family Doctors and the Department of Social Assistance from Anenii Noi. To mark the World TB Day, our team members have given out informational material among patients, doctors and members of the administration in these institutions. In addition, our colleagues tried to inform as many people as possible and raise awareness about this disease. Therefore, they made a trip to the central station from Anenii Noi, a place that gave them acces to a large flow of people. To remind people about the importance of the World TB Day that is celebrated on March 24, people received informational materials and sweet cookies.
