Within the project "Empowerment of People with Tuberculosis and Communities in Moldova" AFI center was delegated the implementation of its social support component.
Monthly, each TB patient in the program is offered a food/hygiene package provided that the patient has no unmotivated absence to the treatement cabinet during a month of treatment, as prescribed by his doctor. The food/hygiene package is worth about 20 euros and is distributed in lei via a bank transfer. In addition, approximately 10% of TB patients receive reimbursement of travel expenses incurred during visits to the TB cabinet. The beneficiaries of this service are only patients living within a substantial distance from the cabinet which influences directly on his TB treatment adherence. The beneficiaries of this service are included in the program on doctor's advice.
Another service provided to patients with TB in this project is the posibility to undertake home treatment. It is intended for patients who can not visit the treatement cabinet daily because of other concomitant disease or other reasons. Patients are identified in the referral doctor and medical specialist center AFI in the town hires a patient who has a responsibility to ensure full treatment at home.
Moreover, within the project AFI has the opportunity to offer a one-time material support worth 92 euros for approxiamately 20% of the TB patients. This financial support is meant to cover acute material needs so that it would facilitate patients adherence to the treatment (eg. buying clothes and food, urgent repairs, document problems)
All these social support activies of the project are financed by the Center PAS.
